Lists of things that are useful from books on writing, open competitons, course and software etc.

Books:

Stephen King – On Writing
I found this book very useful and a fascinating read. Any perspective from an author is good, but considering King’s popularity and success its well worth spending the time to learn a little of his methodology.

Haruki Murakami – Things I think about When I am Running
Autobiographical excerpts about his running and about his career, his feelings towards both. You gain a useful insight into how he thinks and his love of books as he also translates work from English to Japanese also.

Jay Rubin – Haruki Murakami and the Music of Words
Written by one of his main translators it offers insights into the themes of Murakami’s work, the translating process and its issues and some words on editing. whilst not strictly about how to write, it provides a good alternate perspective to Murakami’s work mentioned previously.
